Pleasure Island and McFadden Beach

Hey! This morning we woke up and headed out to explore the Golden Triangle area. We went to nearby Pleasure Island and let Xavier play on the coolest playground! (This is where we drove the other day and saw the Gulf Coast.) We were the ONLY people there, the benefit of going on a Friday morning! It is right underneath the MLK Jr. bridge and by the marshland. We had fun running all over the place. Until Daniel mentioned that his uncle said the alligators were "bad" this year. Hmmmm, guess we'll hurry this little trip up!

Then, we drove about 45minutes out to Sabine Pass, right where Hurricane Rita hit. This is on the Intracoastal Canal, and was hit the worst in the hurricane. Most of the homes and buildings had been restored, but some were still abandoned or demolished. It was crazy for me to see an off-shore oil rig, and then see cattle grazing too! We drove past the fire station that Extreme Makeover:Home Edition came out and fixed up in Sabine Pass. It was pretty nice! And then we went out to McFadden Beach. It was WAYYYY out on SH 87. I told Dan it looked like we were driving out to the end of the earth! The road kept going and going..... Finally, we passed a sign that said "Road Closed 100 Ft. ahead." I looked at him, like, surely we didn't drive all this way for that did we? But, he turned off the road and right onto the beach!! Yep, you can drive on the beaches here, so we pulled right out onto the sand and found a parking spot! Xavier was giggling the whole time! Caedmon slept throught the whole excursion, so he missed his first trip to the ocean. Oh, well. Here are some pictures for you to enjoy! Smiles.
