ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Okay! Finally, here's the part where we got on the road to NC. Saturday evening, after we had enjoyed Mandi's wedding and reception, we went back to Nana's for a quick change and then we hit the road! Our little Civic was loaded down with clothes, DVDs, toys, snacks and two "blankies" per child. The plan was to switch off driving most of the night and let the kids sleep all night. That didn't quite happen, though! After a loonngg day with the wedding and all, we weren't up for an all-nighter like we used to be. At about midnight, I was too sleepy to keep Daddy awake any longer, so we decided to pull into a hotel for a few hours of sleep. Xman was very grateful, as he was absolutely miserable trying to sleep in the back seat. Hmmm, he fit on the way down here.... maybe it's because he's grown 4 inches in the past few months!???

The next morning, we hit the road at the crack of dawn and had hoped to be in Concord by 2pm. I think we grossly underestimated the length of stops we would need. Potty/bottle breaks and diaper changes accounted for at least 1/2 an hour each time! Sigh...gone are the days of the 14 hour trips, Daddy. Hey, at least you can say you've done it ONCE! With kids in the equation, the days of making it in the "best time" are long gone. hehe.

We FINALLY pulled into Eddie & Rae's driveway at 5:15pm. WAY past our hoped-for arrival time. And just in the nick of time to get to church at Grace that evening. We figured everyone was used to us coming in late when we lived there, anyway!

This picture was at some obscure gas station in Alabama. See the trees behind Little Man? While we were waiting for Daddy to get our food from a little restaurant, a guy rode up on a horse and tied it to a tree!! Then he walked into the gas station.... not kidding. It was so funny. He must have done this quite often, because the horse just waited around while the guy bought a Coke. Then, he came out, saddled back up and they meandered down the road again. Hilarious!!
