Eat Drink Your Vegetables!!

For lunch today, I had 2 roma tomatoes, two carrots, and two celery stalks. And I ate them all in about 1 minute! I just used my handy dandy juicer and it was like making a homemade version of "V8." We've been trying to use it more often, so the fridge is full of produce right now.
In fact, I spent this afternoon peeling a 50 pound bag of oranges! They were hard to pass up at only $5, so we bought the bag to use for juicing. Even though we like oranges, 50 lbs is a lot! They weren't going to stay ripe long, waiting around to be used, so I went ahead and peeled them all. I put 8 oranges a bag into my Foodsaver bags, and sealed them up tight. 3 bags went into the freezer, and three more into the fridge for immediate use.
I really like the Foodsaver, it's so handy! I used it the other week to preserve my gargantuan sweet potatoes. They're chopped, vacuum-sealed, and frozen until we're ready to eat them!

Here's a link about "juicing" for health reasons.

Well, we're heading to Waco...

Something about the words "Waco" and "homesteading community" just make you go hmmmm. But, we're going anyway! Any other organic-back-to-the-land-wanna-be's (like myself) should check it out! (I highly emphasize the wanna-be part, we are so not there yet!)

Juicy Juice

I really love the new juicer we bought! It has made us some wonderful drinks so far! The kids especially love the grape/apple juice. Daddy likes the orange/grapefruit/apple, and I cannot wait to try the "V8"-like combination.

But, if you ever get the urge to buy one and start a-mixin'......

DO NOT make cantaloupe, cucumber, pear and ginger.

UGHHGHGHHHH!!!

The ginger just ruined it completely!!!

I just might get healthy yet!

Lookit what I got! I got me one of them thar Juicers!

I have been wanting one of these for a while now! Last night Hubby surprised me by coming home with it! Brand-spanking new and ready to be used! So, today required a trip to the grocery store to go get actual FRUIT and VEGETABLES. Fresh ones. Not in a can. We didn't have anything like THAT on hand, or I could have tried out my new juicer last night.

The lady at checkout looked at me a little wierd. She knows we usually only get milk, red meat and beverages. When I handed her 3 lbs of carrots and celery each, she did a double-take. Oh, and I cut my hair, so she might have truly thought it was my twin or something. But, it was probably just the fruits and vegetables.

The book I am reading says not to be surprised if your body is "out of sorts" for a few days. Out of sorts. I snorted. How about out-right REBELLION???? How about DETOXING??? How about in complete DISBELIEF???

I hope this thing works out. It takes up a lot of counterspace if not...

What just happened here?

Howdy howdy. We got back from our little excursion to Mr. T's (health food store) a while ago. It was a bit unsettling for Daddy, to say the least. I was going for some Progesterone cream - which I mentioned was recommended for all kinds of health issues I need to resolve. So, we go into the tiny store and I walked up to the counter where the owner was sitting. The little couple that owns the store is so cute. They are in their 80's and absolutely the healthiest people I have ever seen!

As soon as the tiny little woman saw the kids, she immediately knew XMan was sick. (He's been coughing right along with me while I battle bronchitis.) She goes, "Oh my goodness, I know exactly what you need to give that baby!" So, she jumped up from the counter before we could even recover and off she went. Daddy looked at me quizically - we were there for one thing, remember?

She comes running back with two items, and I finally get to ask her about the progesterone stuff. She darts off again, with us trying to keep up, and we find the cream right away. Then I go and let out a cough and she starts in on me! She says, "Oh my goodness, you have it too?" And she runs off AGAIN to a cooler and brings me back a jar of pills to take. "Take this, it will clean all those antibiotics out of your body, you don't need antibiotics for a cough!"

At this point, Daddy is starting to perspire b/c of the sheer energy of this woman, not to mention the amounts of our money she is spending! So, he reaches up to scratch his arm and she exclaims, "What are you scratching for? Are you using that awful deodorant stuff? You need to use this!" (Running off to get yet ANOTHER item off the shelves) "That stuff will put aluminum in your body! Don't use that stuff!"

She must have made an impression on Daddy, becasue we bought almost everything she "recommended." And that's how we went to Mr. T's to buy one thing and ended up buying $50 worth of products! I think she should have sold Kirby vacuum cleaners. Then they might still be in business.
