This side of Heaven...

There are people out there that will never know how hard I've been praying for them.    Kirill's family, for one.    I hope I get to meet him in Heaven one day and hug his precious neck.    The young boy in NY, who escaped his mother's suicide while the car rolled into the Hudson River.  Survivor guilt must wash over him constantly, remembering how he couldn't save his three younger siblings.    Dear God, please comfort this child, send your Holy Spirit to rescue him!  The family in Canada, who has decided to not reveal their new baby's gender because they want him/her to choose for themselves.   Their poor confused older boys, who are encouraged to buy girl's clothing and color their hair pink, even though they protest to be seen as boys...   God, please remove the scales from their eyes!   Convict their sinful hearts, Lord.    My own children, who will never understand how much I pour my heart out in prayer for them.  Praying for their salvation, security, blessings, and wisdom.

And today's latest, the waitress from the Chinese restaurant where we had lunch.
"Can I hug your baby?"  she asked me in broken English.   Embracing the opportunity to eat with two hands, I quickly agreed.  As Zeb settled down and let this stranger snuggle him, I was touched.
"Do you have any children?" I asked her.

She nodded, "Two...." then hesitated, "They are with my parents in China."

Mama-to-mama, I could see her blink those tears back as she told me their ages, "They are 4 and almost 1."

Almost one.   Still a baby.  And she's over here, in our land of opportunity, working to provide a home to eventually bring them to.    Our land of opportunity, which people (myself included) complain about and take for granted daily.    Father, please help her to be reunited with those babies soon.   Help her to achieve the dream she's looking for.    Keep them safe until she is with them again.

I don't know if there are people out there who lift me up in prayer from time to time.  But, I sure hope so.   We can all use someone interceding for us.   When I meet you in Heaven, I hope to hear all about it.

Thoughts...

A friend of mine and I have been praying earnestly for a precious little baby named Jacob. He had Hypo-plastic Left Heart Syndrome, the same congenital heart defect my son Elijah had. He even shared the same surgeon and the same hospital, and I admit, it was all a bit overwhelming as I followed his story.

Baby Jake went home to be with Jesus yesterday. Please say a prayer for the Warfield family as they mourn the loss of their little boy. It's made me remember a lot of what we dealt with back then.

When we were dealing with Elijah's illness and surgeries 4 years ago, we had a lot of friends who were in "Word of Faith" based churches. You know, the Joel Osteen types of churches. Where it's all fluff and about praying for health, wealth and happiness. Not that those things are bad in and of themselves, but that's not what Christianity is all about. It's about becoming Christlike, and sometimes that means we must suffer. If my suffering brings me closer to him, then "Jesus bring the rain," to quote Mercy Me.

As E's condition grew worse, we actually had one of those friends ask us, "Well...are you praying in FAITH?" Hubby had to hold me back when I heard that one! How dare someone ask me if I was praying IN FAITH, insinuating that we were causing our baby's illness by lack of faith?!

Now, I look back on that and think, how sad. How sad that they thought God's mercy and grace depended on just our prayers. Should we pray believing God can do miracles and that He can heal physical disease and suffering? Absolutely. Should we be shocked if He chooses not to? Sometimes His plans don't include healing, at least on this frail earth. Sometimes His plans include so much more. Elijah's death was the glue that held our marriage together. It has made me a better mother, a better Christian, a better person. His life and death has been a blessing to our family in ways that I can't even explain. That's right, I said a blessing. Are you shocked? It's only after 4 years of walking through this experience with God, that I could actually say, "Thank you Lord. Thank you for showing me more of your Son, through the death of mine."

The whole process of praying for, and now grieving this family's loss brought up an old topic for Hubby and me. When we went through our loss of Elijah, our friend/pastor's wife Cindy bought a kit from Caleb Ministries that was very special to me. It had a Bible study about losing a child, a book called, "Morning Will Come," and some other very sweet things for grieving parents. It was so much better than the bland little items the hospital gave us. We briefly talked about it back then, but I was very surprised yesterday when Hubby said, "I think you need to go ahead and become a representative for them." I looked at him surprised because I hadn't thought about it in a few years.

But, yesterday I emailed Sandy, the woman who started Caleb Ministries, after experiencing the loss of her own son. I am going to order their resources and hopefully I can use this to share something with other parents who go through the loss of a child.

Here are the lyrics to "Bring the Rain." I think they're awesome.

I can count a million times
People asking me how I
Can praise You
with all that
I've gone through
The question just amazes me
Can circumstances possibly

Change who I forever am in You

Maybe since my life was changed

Long before these rainy days

It's never really ever crossed my mind
To turn my back on you,
oh Lord
My only shelter from the storm
But instead I draw closer through these times

So I pray

Bring me joy, bring me peace

Bring the chance to be free

Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there'll
be days
When this life brings me pain

But if that's what it takes to
praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

I am yours regardless of
the clouds that may
loom above
because you are much greater than
my pain
you who made a way for me
suffering
your destiny
so tell me whats a little rain

Praying for Evan today...

Today, our old church in NC is having an all-day fasting and prayer time for one of our little friends. His name is Evan, he's almost five and he has severe epilepsy. For the past 2 years, his mom and dad have been fighting this condition and all the side effects of it. Right now, he and his mom are at the Cleveland Clinic trying to get a new set of doctors to help with their situation. I invite you to visit their blog and say a prayer for Evan today.

Oh yeah, we're leaving....

Well, Hurricane Gustav is becoming quite a little pain in the "badonkadonk." We are leaving as soon as possible tomorrow.... It is already a Category 4 on its way to becoming a Category 5, with the warm hurricane-enhancing Gulf waters still ahead!

We are renting this house and our ever-diligent landlord isn't even answering his phone..... (Jesus, help me bite my tongue.) So, we bought wood to board our windows and he will be getting the bill as soon as we can track him down! Not to mention the rent check is just going to have to stay in my purse until we come BACK to the area.

We had Grandma Lynd's funeral this morning, which went very well. Then we rushed to her nursing home to pick up a dresser that was being given to us. They have buses lined up to evacuate the residents this afternoon.

Well, I have a lot of packing to do, and not enough time left to do it! PLEASE pray for us as we travel, and pray for my sanity as my O.C.D. kicks into hyper-drive! Or maybe pray for my husband as the O.C.D. kicks in!

To leave or not to leave....

Hmmmm.... So, there is yet another Tropical Storm heading our way. This one has the potential to turn into a pretty nice hurricane before it heads our way. Or it could head to Louisiana and do its damage there. Or it could head even further west and hit Corpus Christi.... Or.... That's the biggest problem! NOT KNOWING!

We went to Wal-Mart to see if there was anything left on the shelves get a few items before time ran out. We bought mainly things we would use camping, or if we had no electricity, which I am sure will be the first thing to go. We don't have any relatives that are in central Texas, or farther north, so we aren't sure where we will evacuate to, if needed. Hightailing it to NC for a few days isn't exactly feasible, or we would! Besides, it looks like Tropical Storm Hanna is heading that way.

Basically, right now, we will probably go north and find a campground to stay at. Having the d.o.g. with us will make it harder to stay in hotels, etc. anyway. Not to mention, the funds aren't exactly padded for that right now.

To make it a little bit more complicated, Hubby's great-grandmother passed away this week. She was 100 years old, having just celebrated her birthday August 23rd. (I will do a special post on Great-Grandma Lynd when we have more time for it! Our kids are part of her 5th generation! She has a very sweet story, I can't wait to share it with you.) We will be at the visitation tonight, and the funeral in the morning. So, even if we are leaving, it won't be until after that! We didn't live here for the huge devastation that everyone experienced with Hurricane Rita, but I hate traffic enough to know I don't want to be stuck in it for long!

In other news, Hubby was scheduled to have a surgery on his arm next Wednesday. He has been battling acute tendinitis since we left the military. It hurts him to even lift the kids anymore. :-( They called today to say that he actually has a torn ligament and will need more surgery than they thought! So, we'll be going to Houston for a specialist to do that surgery, as opposed to having an out-patient procedure done here. Then, it will be at least 6-8 weeks out of work for recovery. Follow that up with having the other arm done and another 6-8 weeks out of work! WOW.

Do I have a few things going on here, or what? Whew. I am worn out just typing about it. Talk to y'all soon!!

Because I need the reminder...

"For [Martin] Luther, our prayers are most intense and genuine when we are at our wits' end, when problems press themselves upon us to the extent that we give up, when in our desperation there is literally nothing that we can do. At that lowest point, in prayer, we throw ourselves completely upon the Lord. 'For what sort of prayer would it be if need were not present and pressing upon us,' asked Luther, 'that prayer be thereby the stronger?' (The Sermon on the Mount [1532])". Child Protective Services? More like Government Baby Thieves

CPS takes 2 day old baby from the arms of mother. You can go watch this one, but I have to warn you, it's heart-wrenching.

Here's another one, interviews with CPS workers who have seen the "light."

Lord, help us.

Please Pray for Jessica

Please say a prayer for my friend, Jessica, and her family. I heard earlier this morning that she was at the hospital, in labor with their baby, "Baby Tres" as she calls him/her. This is not a typical labor/delivery, so she would probably appreciate your prayers to help them get through it all. We talked to her brother-in-law a little bit ago and labor is moving very slowly. Which is good, in that it gives her time to adjust. Scary, in that the baby might have some difficulties. It's all really unknown until God shows them what He has in mind. So, say a prayer for her, and go check out her blog if you have time.
Thanks!

Please pray for the Steven Curtis Chapman family

Please say a prayer for Christian music artist Steven Curtis Chapman and his family. Their youngest daughter, 5 year old Maria, was hit and killed when her teenage brother was backing out of the driveway. This is such a horrible tragedy for their family to endure! Please pray for them!!
